  • two fully-funded positions that need to be filled quickly.

The recipients of these PhD positions will be awarded a fully-funded four-year scholarship, as well as additional funding for the payment of doctoral tuition fees and research stays abroad. The PhD theses will be carried out in the framework of the TRAIN (EXTREMELY LOW-RESOURCED MACHINE TRANSLATION) and DeepKnowledge (DEEP LANGUAGE MODELS FOR UNDERSTANDING AND REASONING WITH MULTILINGUAL CONTENT) projects.

The TRAIN project will explore techniques for machine translation between languages with very scarce resources, including multimodal translation from Spanish Sign Language (LSE) to written Spanish.

The main research objective of DeepKnowledge consists in advancing the state-of-the-art towards NLU and NLG by generating and exploiting new language models by taking into account a multitask and multimodal objective during the pre-training, as well as exploring novel ways to exploiting new large language models.

  • Implementación de un conversor de texto a voz neuronal embebido
El grupo dispone de tecnología de síntesis de voz basada en redes neuronales, que además permite la generación de voces sintéticas personalizadas, con un grado muy alto de personalización. Estas voces son de especial interés para personas con discapacidad oral. Las técnicas desarrolladas requieren el uso de tarjetas de procesamiento específicas con gran capacidad de cálculo. Esto impide el uso de estas voces personalizadas de gran calidad en el propio terminal del usuario. El trabajo propuesto consiste en la investigación de estrategias para reducir las necesidades de cómputo y permitir la integración de las voces neuronales sintéticas en dispositivos móviles. Entre las actividades a desarrollar se encuentran las siguientes:
- Comprender el funcionamiento de los sistemas TTS disponibles por el grupo y evaluar sus necesidades de memoria y cómputo
- Analizar las posibilidades de implementación de diferentes arquitecturas de redes neuronales en dispositivos móviles y sus prestaciones en términos de calidad y velocidad
- Implementar o portar la arquitectura seleccionada a una plataforma para dispositivos móviles y evaluar su rendimiento.
Ofrecemos un contrato de 12 meses a tiempo completo con la posibilidad de trabajar parcialmente on-line. Este contrato se encuentra dentro de la convocatoria “Programa Investigo” del Gobierno Vasco.
